Robert Picker, M.D. is a board-certified psychiatrist who has been practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area since emigrating here from Chicago, where he graduated from Northwestern Medical School in 1969. Dr. Picker did his internship at Herrick Memorial Hospital in Berkeley, California and then completed psychiatric residency training at Agnews State Hospital in Santa Clara in 1974. Since then Dr. Picker has been practicing psychiatry with a holistic approach which integrates contemporary psychopharmacology psychotherapy with alternative complementary therapies. Dr. Picker was the Medical Director of The San Francisco Dance and Movement Therapy Center and The Berkeley Holistic Health Center for several years in the 1970’s. He authored chapters in The Holistic Health Handbook, Parts I and II, two books which achieved international recognition and was honored by President Jimmy Carter contributing a Forward introduction in the book. Dr. Picker continues to take an approach which integrates body, mind and spirit, including nutritional and other alternative therapies, with a goal of giving individuals the tools they need to achieve optimal health and well-being.
