Val Bellman, M.D.

Psychiatrist

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with a multidisciplinary background in medicine, psychology, and public health. My medical training began at Sechenov University in Russia, followed by postgraduate studies in the UK and a psychiatry residency at UMKC School of Medicine in the United States. Along the way, I earned a Doctorate in Psychology and a Master of Public Health, which complement my clinical expertise with a strong foundation in research and systems-level thinking.

My areas of specialization include psychosomatic medicine and performance psychiatry, where I help individuals optimize mental health and navigate complex mind-body interactions. I integrate psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, existential, and somatic approaches with interventional treatments such as TMS, ketamine therapy, and ECT to provide personalized, evidence-based care.

Recognized for both teaching and scholarship—including awards such as Best Resident Teacher (2022–2023) and Scholar of the Year (2022)—I’ve authored over 50 publications and presentations in mental health. I’m currently pursuing a Fellowship in Integrative & Functional Medicine at UC Irvine to further enhance my holistic approach.

I view treatment as a collaborative process, grounded in science but centered on the individual. My goal is to support patients not just in reducing symptoms, but in achieving lasting transformation and improved quality of life.
