Getting to know Wendy Liu, M.D.
Dr. Wendy Liu is a board certified psychiatrist who prior to her medical training, worked as an AmeriCorps VISTA member. She decided to pursue a career in mental health after seeing the widespread impact it can have not just on an individual, but also within a community and generations to come. She completed her medical training at Tulane University in New Orleans and residency in general psychiatry at Loma Linda University in Redlands, California.
She has worked both within local county and private clinics and has experience providing interventional psychiatry treatments such as TMS and Spravato counseling. She treats all major psychiatric illnesses, and specializes in mood disorders, anxiety, psychotic disorders, women’s mental health, and aims to provide culturally sensitive mental health care.
Dr. Liu believes that good patient care requires mutual learning, teamwork, and incorporation of holistic care such as identifying lifestyle changes, and psychotherapy. She prioritizes working with patients to ensure they understand their diagnoses and can make informed choices about their options for treatment, resulting in a unique treatment plan for each individual.

I am a patient of Dr. Wendy Liu. I attend regular virtual appointments and have found the flexibility of online therapy helpful. She listens to me and works closely with me to ensure my medication is correct. I have developed greatly in part because of her care, which has given me hope, even with my disease.
FAQs
1. What is your approach to working with patients?
In my practice, there is not a one size fits all approach – meaning that each treatment plan is tailored to the individual through collaborative discussions. We will also lift the curtain behind prescribing and spend time discussing how medications work and why they work for specific illnesses. In addition to medication management, it’s also important to me to understand who you are as a person and your story so that we can develop a psychotherapy plan together to help you reach your treatment goals.
2. What do you believe is the most important part of the healing process?
Aside from taking medications and participating in psychotherapy, sources of human connection are crucial. Reconnecting with family and old friends, overcoming the initial anxiety of meeting new people and finding new roles in your community can make a huge impact on your mental health journey. Oftentimes these things seem too difficult or there is so much fear in exploring the unknown but these are the times where having a good mental health team for support can help back you to achieve your goals.
3. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love the outdoors and am frequently outside in the garden trying to grow vegetables (trying as I’m new to the hobby!) or around town hiking and going to craft events with my husband and 7 year old shepherd mix, Evee.
