FAQs
1. How do you integrate medication management?
I integrate medication management thoughtfully and conservatively, always as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that prioritizes psychotherapy and lifestyle adjustments first. Medication is a tool that can help alleviate severe symptoms, enabling patients to better engage in therapy and their daily lives. I take the time to explain the rationale, risks, and benefits in clear language, ensuring the patient (or the patient's family, in the case of a child/adolescent) is an active participant in the decision-making process. I aim for the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary duration.
2. What do you believe is the most important part of the healing process?
I believe the most essential part of the healing process is restoring a sense of safety and self-efficacy, but this process must begin with radical acceptance. Patients first need to accept and acknowledge their current stage in the journey before they can make lasting improvements.
Once that foundation of safety and acceptance is established, the process involves learning to set healthy boundaries. Boundaries are crucial for growth and emotional protection. They help individuals define their identity, protect their energy, and maintain respectful relationships. In addition, connection to oneself and the community is the cornerstone of this restoration.
